The Briard is a large Pastoral dog bred for breeding sheep. They have a great sense of hearing and have been used in the past by French soldiers to look for the wounded.

The Briard is nowadays used as a watch and guard-dog as well as for search and rescue and police duties. They are very loyal and protective and good round children of all ages making them great family pets.
