The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a large gundog developed on the east coast of the United States in the 1800's, they are primarily a hunting companion and family pet.

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever tends to be fond of water, intelligent and of a happy disposition. They are a friendly and obedient breed with lots of energy and very active. They can be aloof with strangers but will be protective of their own home and family.
