The Shetland Sheepdog is a medium sized Pastoral dog which is very intelligent and loyal to its family. They are very willing to please and obey and exceptionally trainable.
They tend to have a very strong herding instinct and may well be inclined to nip at ankles or try herd children and small animals. They do need a good deal of exercise and mental stimulation to ward of undesirable behaviour.
